課程概述 |
In this oral training course, we will build on the listening and speaking skills that students have already developed to practice discussing a wider range of topics at a more sophisticated level. Students will practice in this course articulating clear, effective messages using the skills of assertive communication. Effective communication should always be the students’ main goal whenever they try to convey a message across. Students will also have the opportunities to do role-play, give informal and formal presentations, and even debate with their peers and instructor. Much class time will therefore be devoted to student-led activities to maximize students’ learning opportunities. |
課程目標 |
This course is designed for students to speak up in English in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Students are expected to support each other to build up their confidence in speaking and interacting with people in English. To achieve this goal, students should actively participate in all class activities to their fullest extent to practice their listening and speaking skills. It is with hope that with the help of their instructor and peers, students will find out that speaking up in English is in fact not a stressful experience at all. |
課程要求 |
This course is conducted entirely in English. Students are required to speak to their peers and instructor in English in the classroom. Since students only meet the instructor once a week for 2 hours, students are expected to take an active role in all class activities to maximize their learning opportunities. A student-centered approach will be adopted to allow students to make full use of class time to achieve their English-learning goals and course learning objectives. Since this is an oral training course, any students who are not ready to participate in class will be given a zero for participation grade for that particular class.
Students should attend all classes and come to class on time and prepared. Attendance is taken seriously. Students who “need” to be late or absent should notify the instructor at least 2 days in advance. Students missing 4 or more classes automatically fail the course. Students who do not complete Project I and/or Project II are not allowed to pass the course. |
